RESOLUTIONS:

30 AUGUST 2003

THE SEMINAR ON WOMEN AND SPORT RESOLVED THAT:

  1. That Women Sport should be treated like serious business and define our business proposition model
  2. That there is a need to create more sporting activities for women especially in rural and informal settlement
  3. That THETA should ensure that their programmes should address women capacity building projects through their Skill Development programmes
  4. A need to identify issues of health that affects women's participation in sport
  5. That South African Sport should consider to include a clause in their registration form or players contact or even notice on the venue that have the aim of getting the participant who is pregnant to agree not to claim for injuries suffered during training or in the course of a competition. These contract of waiver (indemnity or exemptions) should therefore provide a defense against a claim by a injured pregnant athlete for injuries sustained during participation
  6. That we should promote the use of physical activity, which includes daily activities, recreation, exercise and sport, to prevent and manage obesity and its related co-morbidities such as diabetes mellitus, hypertention and dyslipidaemia.
  7. There is a need to come up with support programmes for female athletes and administrators especially those involved in male dominated sport.
  8. Ensure that all our activities should include women and girls with disability
  9. That a group of researchers be appointed to do research of the following areas:
    1. " How much money is spent by women on certain products for us to be able to use those fact in order to address the lack of sponsorship for women sport
    2. " To do a research on media coverage given to women's sport by both electronic and print media. This should include media portrayals of sports women.
    3. " The rate of participation of women in sport and their challenges
  10. That there is a need for image building of female sport role models as a sporting brand
  11. That, although the IOC abandons gender verification, SA sport should ensure that there is clear policy on participation of women sport in order to protect female athletes and fair play.
  12. Organise Risk Management Forum that will look at all issue affecting women's participation in sport
  13. That the South African Sport Commission should ensure that all resolutions are addressed and adhered to.
