2005 NAPHER-SD National Conference and IYSPE

Nigeria - At the 36th NAPHER-SD National Conference held at ABU Zaria in December 2005 and in connection with the UNESCO and ICHPER-SD declaration of 2005 as the International Year of Sports and Physical Education (IYS & PE), a declaration has been issued to mark the Year and to encourage ongoing participation throughout the upcoming year as well.

One of the highlights of the communiqué was that SATURDAY JANUARY 21ST 2006 is to mark the IYS & PE in Nigeria.

1. For the actualization of this programme;

All States Chapters of NAPHER-SD
All Students Chapters of NAPHER-SD
All Schools & Colleges,
All Tertiary Institutions
All Government Establishments: Ministries, Parastatals, Agencies,
Commissions and Sports Councils
All Private Establishments, Banks and Corporate Organisations
All Churches and Mosques
All Social Assemblies and Associations
All Embassies and High Commissions in Nigeria
All Media Houses and Individuals with or without any affiliations

SHOULD endeavour to participate in one form of Sporting activities or the other for at least one hour on the day. For example: Walking, Jogging, Running, Aerobics Exercises, Calisthenics

2. All National Sports Federations should endeavour to involve all their members and athletes in their sports on this day to create awareness.

3. It is anticipated that this exercise will take place on SATURDAY, 21st JANUARY 2006 and every Saturday till the December of this year and beyond.
