National Women’s Games in Malaysia

June 1-9, 2007 - The 2nd National Women’s Games will be held from 1-9 June 2007 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is expected that 2500 women will participate in 12 sports: athletics, beach volleyball, kayak, chess, golf, lawn bowls, netball, sepaktakraw, silat, table tennis, triathlon and weightlifting. The Opening Ceremony on 4 June 2007 will be graced by her Royal Highness the Queen of Malaysia. The Games are organised by the Women’s Sports Fitness Foundation Malaysia (WSFFM), the National Sports Council and the Sports Ministry.

A special feature of the games is the focus on women as coaches and officials. Besides the athletes, those behind the scenes such as capable coaches and officials who prove themselves will be absorbed into the Government’s coaching and technical schemes for grooming. “This will help fill the present void in the areas of coaching and officials involving sportswomen in the country,” said Sports Minister, Datuk Azalina Othman Said.
