| The Hellenic Association for the Advancement of
Women in Sport (P.E.P.G.A.S.), celebrating the 10th anniversary
since its establishment, is pleased to announce a two-day seminar,
in which all are invited to actively participate.
THEME: “Mediterranean
Culture and Women in Sport”
PLACE: Thessaloniki, Greece
DATES: 4-5 November, 2005
THE CONTEXT: Culture has
always been a significant parameter that reinforce sex-role stereotypes
and constrain women’s involvement in sport and physical activity.
The multiplicity of Mediterranean Culture with their peculiar social
and sports environments have also played its unique role in determining
women’s position and advancement in many spheres of social
life, including sports and physical activity.
THE EVENT: International
experts come together to examine the various issues affecting women’s
participation in sport and physical activity in the Mediterranean
region, focusing on similarities and differences. They will share
their views and experiences and join their efforts in identifying
and formulating future directions.
THE LOCATION: Thessaloniki
the second biggest city in Greece after Athens, offers
international standards in accommodation, communications, cuisine,
and entertainment. Moreover, its commitment to advancing the role
of women in sports, on all levels, roles and functions – home
city of P.E.P.G.A.S - make it an ideal location to convene a seminar
of all those interested in the many potentialities of women’s
involvement in sport.
THE SITE: The seminar will
be held in the Conference Room of the Central Library of Local Authority

Abstract Format
All abstracts should not exceed 250 words and must be typed, single-spaced
using 10 point, Times New Roman font, inside the margins of the

Each abstract should include the following: Presenting Author
Surname, Presenting Author First Name, Title of Abstract, Authors
(including the Presenting Author), Institution, City, Country, Phone,
Fax, Email.
Each abstract should include the headings: Introduction, Methods,
Results, Discussion and should be submitted in English or French.
Each abstract will be independently reviewed by at least two experts
in the field. The accepted or rejected abstracts will be notified
electronically by 10th of October.
